The PRIM Orlík DLC watch will please all lovers of the popular PRIM Orlík model. As the name of the watch suggests, the main innovation is the new surface treatment, thanks to which this legendary model has acquired an extremely impressive look.
The solid case, with a diameter of 42 mm, and the brushed DLC surface finish in black, immediately attract attention. The crown, caseback and strap buckle also come in the same finish.
The watch is equipped with an in-house calibre 98 movement with automatic winding. The movement has a DLC surface finish. This modification of the movement was first used in the extremely successful PRIM Orlík 2018 edition. Another intriguing feature of the design is the black dial and the dark grey luminescent indices. The transparent caseback offers a view of the movement. Water resistance of 10 ATM allows universal use for all normal daily activities.
The history of the Orlík model began to be written as early as 1959, when the Ministry of National Defence launched a project which included research into new equipment for the reconnaissance units of the army corps of engineers. The watchmaking plant in Nové Město nad Metují was entrusted with developing a waterproof watch, resistant to sudden temperature changes and shocks. The watch had to meet relatively demanding criteria for its time. The first six prototypes of the PRIM Orlík watch were subjected to factory tests as early as 1963, and military tests in 1964. Archive materials have revealed that some unusual testing methods were applied. The watch was used during sports - basketball, volleyball and skittles - totalling approximately 10,000 “throws”. Furthermore, the watch was frozen in ice and during thawing, was exposed to boiling point for 2 to 3 minutes because the person conducting the test forgot about it. The Orlík watch also had to withstand drop tests from a height of 3 m onto a concrete floor and was exposed to a pressure of 10.5 ATM for 24 hours.
