The special edition PRIM ORLÍK 2020 commemorates a hundred years of the Czechoslovak flag. In its current form, it has been in use since the spring of 1920. Until then the white and red symbol of Bohemia had fulfilled the role, though inadequately, as it had not represented Slovakia as part of the republic, and because two neighbouring countries (Poland and Austria) had also been using those colours. There were dozens of candidates for a new flag, including alterations of the original one using various embedded symbols like a chalice, a lion or an anchor. In the end, the simple and distinct design by Jaroslav Kursa, a draftsman of the state archive gained the most favour. Red and white stripes with a blue wedge. The wedge had reached only to a third of the flag on the original design from 1919, however, it was later extended to reach its half. On 30 April 1920, the design got approved by the National forum as the new official flag.

Interestingly, Jaroslav Kursa was not recognised as the author of the flag for many years as the academic painter Jaroslav Jareš, using Kursa’s absence during the contest, proclaimed the design his own. It was only in 2007 that the Czech vexillological society was able to prove Kursa’s authorship of the Czechoslovak flag.

This model was inspired by the legendary ORLÍK watch, which belongs to the Czech icons of watchmaking.
The watch is equipped with a mechanical in-house caliber 105 movement, manufactured in the ELTON factory in Nove Mesto nad Metuji, Czech Republic.
Characteristic case and dial, no date window, delicate size and original convex sapphire glass – it is these details that make this model resemble its 60s predecessor the most.

PRIM ORLÍK original model was created in the factory in Nové Město on commission of the Czechoslovak Army in the early ´60s. The watches had been designed for military divers, and given the fact that only 300 pieces were made, they are still popular and almost unavailable collectors´ item. The new watch is the first PRIM model with the case made of bronze.

ORLIK – this name is a symbol of the legendary wristwatch model for each and every wristwatch fan and is basically indestructible. The Czechoslovak army also convinced themselves of this fact, the model having originally been manufactured for them in NP ELTON in Nove Mesto nad Metuji. They subjected it to truly extreme tests – dropping it from a height of several metres, boiling it and freezing it in a block of ice.

In 2011, ELTON hodinářská decided to build on this tradition and manufacture a wristwatch inspired by this legendary model. Thanks to the quality of manufacturing, this wristwatch is characterised by its exceptional durability.

In order to test its quality in practice, we decided to perform an unusually long test. Because the Orlik was also originally used by army scuba divers, we lent this wristwatch in 2014 to the professional scuba diver Jaroslav Kočárek from Snakesub. He is testing it literally in the flesh whilst diving in various environments in order to check its durability and water resistance under real conditions.

The Orlik has so far passed this demanding test without any problems. The wristwatch has survived dives in the Red Sea known for its high salinity and in the Austrian Attersee where it went down to a maximum depth of almost 70 metres.

No other wristwatch attracts the attention of collectors like the PRIM ORLIK. This model was designed and manufactured in the 60s subject to order for Czechoslovak army. We decided to return to production of his model in 2010. We preserved the design dating back to the end of the 60s but the functioning and running of the movement meet the standards of the 21st century. The ORLIK wristwatch is part of a modern collection, but its roots reach back into history.

The PRIM SPORT universal sports wristwatch was created for active customers and is able to stand its ground in the most demanding conditions. The solid stainless steel case has a respectable diameter of 45 mm, the clear dial and distinct hands ensure excellent legibility even when visibility is reduced and the durable strap from natural rubber ensures that the wristwatch is comfortable to wear whatever the weather. Thanks to its threaded crown and 10 ATM water resistance, the PRIM SPORT wristwatch is also suitable for scuba diving.

The design of the PRIM PILOT wristwatch pays homage to the cockpit instruments used in particular in the originally Soviet MIG aircraft which was also manufactured under licence in the Czechoslovak Republic where several aircraft plants participated in its production. The dominant feature of the dial is the distinct contrasting indexes. The sanded matt case with PVD treatment is complemented by a textile/leather NATO strap. The crown has a striking and unusual shape which thanks to distinct grooves is reminiscent of an engine cylinder block.
