The foundation of the company
The Czech Republic has only a few people who do not know the brand PRIM. They are either too young to experience the exclusive position of brand PRIM in Czech market, or they have got Ruhla or Slava watches for their good school reports. Yes, the majority of Bohemians, Moravians, and Slovaks have got their first wristwatches PRIM.
In this connection we could call them “family silver”. The meaning of the wristwatches branded PRIM has not been insignificant either in the world’s map of a watch industry. That also proves increased interest in those watches from outland. Those watches have been manufactured in Nové Město nad Metují since 1949.
Also the indication Czech Made is one of many reasons that people are more and more interested in PRIM. In the time when the majority of branded watches are produced or fabricated under the Swiss flag and other “nameless” mass production in areas witch cheap labour the tradition and historical continuity of manufacturing are significant values that go for reminding.
The watch industry in Eastern Bohemia
The Czech land has had a long tradition in building clock – the famous astronomical clock on Old Town Square was put into the operation in 1410, and still works with an original movement.
The history of watch industry from eastern Bohemia started in 1889. Company Gustav Becker started their own affiliated company in Broumov which began manufacturing alarm clocks and clocks. The factory was bought in 1930 by Junghans company and nationalized in 1945.
The modern watch industry started by 1946 in the ruins of original Germen factory buildings. For this purpose, our national company Chronotechna was established. Its firm domicile was in Šternberk. In 1949, a new branch of the national company was opened in Nové Město nad Metují, which was in charge of the manufacturing of Czech wristwatches
In 1969 the company was named ELTON, and has since been an independent company.
